30-Day Yoga Challenge | Day 12

It’s a new year, a new day, and a new 30-day yoga challenge by Yoga With Adriene is here. I’ve tried to complete Adriene’s challenges several times over the years but last year was my first time actually succeeding. Blogging about it each day REALY helped me hold myself accountable, so we’re doing that again. Welcome to the new challenge, y’all! (I’m amped.) Is it just me or is this month flying by? I’m not complaining, though; I can’t wait to start my part-time hours at work in Feb. Speaking of work, I’ve been tasked with writing a bunch of articles by next week (at least five, I think) and I’m not feeling that. I’m not interested in writing articles and I definitely expressed that during my interview. I distinctively remember my supervisor saying “We already have a strong group of writers. What we’re looking for is someone to take on the more visual aspects of communications.” That is the sole reason why I accepted the position.

I just want to create. Why is it so hard for employers to be honest about what they want? She also told me that I would be backup for really busy times that she described as “rare.” Should I have taken that to mean she was basically going to have me write often? Maybe. I don’t know. I feel like employers should just be honest. Jobs always accept me for one position but then have me do other things that I am capable of doing. This is only my second week working there, so maybe I’m getting ahead of myself. We’ll see.

One day, I’m going to record a video or write an in-depth post about people who request meetings to say things that should be said via email. Today, someone requested a meeting to discuss a few flyers that I created. I was going to try to squeeze some time in for a call because I really do enjoy talking to the requestee but I was too busy and tired this week, so I declined and asked if they could email it. Y’all know they sent me one — yes, ha-one — edit that is equivalent to erasing something… I just can’t.

Anyways, day 11 is complete. 😝

I‘m not sure who asked for a Maya Angelou quarter but… okay. I swear, this government stay doing things that we never ask for. Anyways, I’m sleepy — good night!

Hey, is this a safe space? *Whispers in shame* I’m not doing yoga today. I know it’s only day 10 but it was also my first full day of work since August and that nine to five schedule took a lot out of me. I had like five meetings today starting a 9 a.m. and I just can’t. It was a pretty good day, though. Unlike my last job, every meeting I attended felt necessary, productive, and effortless. I think I’m going to like this new bunch…

Hey, hey! I’m not really in the writing mood today. Yoga came and went. See ya tomorrow.

When I tell y’all I needed this stretch, I NEEDED this stretch. The back, the feet, and the legs: aching. I woke up this afternoon (yea, I had a late start) to a fridge full of nothing on top of nothing, so I had to re-up on everything. And then, when I got home, I spent like two hours chopping and bagging vegetables. Standing up is a workout. You know when you stand for so long that it shows itself in redness at the bottom of your feet? Das me. Anyways, one week of yoga down. Aeeeowww!

I‘m feeling much better than I did yesterday — yay! Yoga was great but I’m more interested in having a brief chat about the show “See” on AppleTV. I binged both seasons yesterday and today, and the show is so good. I really liked the different communities it focused on and the way that their fighting styles were portrayed. It’s basically a show where people who have sight are learning how to navigate a world that is dominated by people who don’t have sight.

My favorite things about the show is that, from what I’ve read, majority of the cast is blind or identifies as visually impaired (I was going to be SO disappointed with the show’s creators if they weren’t) and how aggressive all of the characters are. I have yet to see a character who’s blind be portrayed as physically weak or inferior. I don’t know how people who are blind or visually impaired feel about the show, — maybe it doesn’t even provide enough auditory stimulation for those who can hear to experience it — so I can’t speak for them. I just know that I enjoyed the bit of representation the show provided.

One thing that I think the show could definitely improve on is having more direct conversations about ableism instead of hinting at it. I wonder how people who are blind or visually impaired feel about that and the show… Let me go ask Google!

The booster shot got me down bad, so I’m going to make this short. My arm is sore and my body doesn’t feel like doing anything but resting. I’m skipping today but I’ll be back on it tomorrow.

I ain’t even gon’ lie to y’all: I almost skipped today’s session. I had two meetings, a plate full of work and things to familiarize myself with concerning work (not complaining, I’m just a little anxious because I want to do well), and I got my booster shot a few hours ago. Needless to say, today was a busy day and I am tired. Today is supposed to be my Friday but I think I’m going to work the rest of the week to make sure I get off to a good start. Oh, I also have to finish making some flyers for the organization that I volunteer with. Hmm… I’ll figure it out. Yoga was great, by the way!

My workout before yoga consisted of a ton of squats and lunges, so today’s stretches were wel-comed! Today was pretty much a breeze on the yoga front, actually. One thing I noticed was that my balance isn’t as bad as I thought it was. I tried doing Tree Pose (I think that’s what it was) on my bare floor instead of my sturdy but cushiony workout mat, this time, and… voila! I experienced little to no swaying. That’s such a minor thing but it makes me happy. Lol 😊

Today was such a busy day: I started a new job, had a bunch of things to review/edit for the organization that I volunteer with, and I made some chili. If I didn’t look at my workout mat, I would have forgotten all about this challenge. Anyways, it was a good session. Though my arms didn’t struggle as much as they did yesterday, today’s session felt more like a workout (ya girl sweated). I feel like we held the poses longer, so that’s probably why. Whatever the reason, I’m going to sleep well tonight because of it.

My arms were not happy today. I did a full body workout before yoga, so my Planks and Downward-Facing Dogs were a bit shaky (I even collapsed a few times). I’m counting today as a win though because I pushed through. My favorite part of the session was probably the Three-Legged Dog poses. Yea, I know that’s odd to say since I just mentioned how shaky my tired arms were, but there’s something about that pose that I enjoy. I don’t know what it is. 🤷🏾‍♀️
