30-Day Yoga Challenge | Day 14

It’s a new year, a new day, and a new 30-day yoga challenge by Yoga With Adriene is here. I’ve tried to complete Adriene’s challenges several times over the years but last year was my first time actually succeeding. Blogging about it each day REALY helped me hold myself accountable, so we’re doing that again. Welcome to the new challenge, y’all! (I’m amped.) Oh, I got a little crafty and created several graphics to accompany the posts — juu liiike it? The illustration is based off of lerarelart’s on 123rf.com.

I spent the entire day binge-watching “Foundation” on Apple TV. I could’ve worked on a pattern or cleaned up my messy apartment but all I felt like doing was nothing. Yea, now I’m about to go to bed and aim to be productive tomorrow. Oh, hopefully, y’all don’t mind that I haven’t been talking about yoga much. I’m still doing the challenge, not as diligently as I had set out to, but I’m doing it. I guess I’m just not that into the daily challenge this year.

One of my goals for the year is to be okay with not hitting every mark. Sometimes, I get so wrapped up in the plans that I set to meet my goals that, when things don’t go as planned, I feel like a failure. Life is unpredictable and I need to be okay with that. It doesn’t matter what route I take as long as I get to where I need to be. Right? Right.

30-Day Yoga Challenge | Day 6

I‘m feeling much better than I did yesterday — yay! Yoga was great but I’m more interested in having a brief chat about the show “See” on AppleTV. I binged both seasons yesterday and today, and the show is so good. I really liked the different communities it focused on and the way that their fighting styles were portrayed. It’s basically a show where people who have sight are learning how to navigate a world that is dominated by people who don’t have sight.

My favorite things about the show is that, from what I’ve read, majority of the cast is blind or identifies as visually impaired (I was going to be SO disappointed with the show’s creators if they weren’t) and how aggressive all of the characters are. I have yet to see a character who’s blind be portrayed as physically weak or inferior. I don’t know how people who are blind or visually impaired feel about the show, — maybe it doesn’t even provide enough auditory stimulation for those who can hear to experience it — so I can’t speak for them. I just know that I enjoyed the bit of representation the show provided.

One thing that I think the show could definitely improve on is having more direct conversations about ableism instead of hinting at it. I wonder how people who are blind or visually impaired feel about that and the show… Let me go ask Google!
